Vascular

Rosacea

Rosacea is a very common condition of diffuse redness in the facial skin, but the affected area sometimes also contains small broken capillaries and larger facial vessels. The LightPod Neo is a unique 650 microsecond 1064nm laser that can clear Rosacea and vessels in 1 to 2 quick, gentle treatments without skin contact or cooling. Rosacea is characterized by areas of diffuse redness on the face, but it may also include various small broken capillaries and larger telangiectasias. The LightPod Neo has the versatility to treat the larger area of diffuse redness first in a quick, easy treatment, and with a simple change of the lens, to target the broken capillaries and larger vessels with higher fluences. The treatments are uniquely gentle and quick, with no need for gels or skin cooling and no contact by the handpiece.

Hemangiomas and spider veins

Vascular lesions can form due to a backup of blood for a number of reasons including aging, sun exposure, pregnancy and hormonal changes as well as certain types of injuries. The LightPod Neo is able to safely treat a broad range of visible blood vessels from hemangiomas and spider veins to large leg veins. The Neo delivers a pulse of laser energy, which will cause the blood within the vein to coagulate and destroy the vessel, which will be absorbed by your body over several weeks to leave your skin looking rejuvenated and youthful. No matter what part of your body is affected, the LightPod Neo can safely and effectively take care of any unwanted veins.

Some patients will respond better than others and the number of treatments for each vessel may depend on the color, size and depth of the vessel as well as the amount of activity the patient undertakes post-treatment.

IPL

What are unsightly veins?

These benign vascular lesions include enlarged blood vessels and capillaries that appear on the surface of the skin as splotches, dots, bulges, and spider shapes. They can show up in a variety of colors ranging from red to purple to brown. Weakness in the walls and valves of the veins cause blood to stagnate rather than to be properly circulated. Some vascular lesions are so tiny that they are not visible under normal conditions. Others, such as varicose let veins, can be quite prominent.

What types of unsightly veins can be treated with IPL?

Many IPL systems are equipped with two different light technologies, making it the treatment of choice for both varicose veins and discolored clusters, commonly called “spider veins” that are near the skin’s surface.

How are surface veins and spider veins treated?

The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology successfully treats small, superficial blood vessels using precise pulses of light energy.

How is IPL used to treat benign vascular lesions?

The face has an extensive network of veins and tiny blood vessels called capillaries. Over time, aging, trauma, sun exposure, and certain lifestyle factors cause them to become more prominent or break. These breakages appear as red streaks, spider veins, or blotches on the skin. The IPL treatment destroys capillaries and excess blood that has leaked into the skin without harming surrounding tissue. Over time, the capillary is reabsorbed by the body and disappears.

How many treatments are needed?

Leg veins require multiple treatment sessions over the course of a few months. Small vessels also require several treatments to resolve. Facial veins also may take several treatment sessions for the blood vessels to resolve.

What is a treatment with IPL like?

A pulse from an Intense Pulsed Light source may feel like a pinch similar to a rubber band being snapped on the skin. A chilled gel applied to the skin and other techniques are used to prevent discomfort. Patients wear protective eyewear during treatment. The entire process is brief and non-invasive.

What preparations must I make prior to treatment?

Patients do not have to change their normal routines before or after treatment. Sun exposure must be limited prior to and following any type of laser or IPL treatment. Treatment should not be performed on tanned skin.

Are treatments with IPL safe?

IPL systems are FDA-cleared to treat the full range of benign vascular and pigmented lesions. These include varicose veins, telangiectasias, diffused redness in the skin (erythema) and vascular birthmarks such as port wine stains.

Are there any possible side effects?

Side effects are rare. Immediately following treatment, skin may appear flushed, brown pigmented spots may appear darker, and capillaries may be more visible. In rare instances, temporary swelling and/or blistering can occur. Limited sun exposure for several weeks before and after treatment will greatly minimize risk of complicaitons.

Cynergy

What are unsightly veins?

These benign vascular lesions include enlarged blood vessels and capillaries that appear on the surface of the skin as splotches, dots, bulges, and spider shapes. They can show up in a variety of colors ranging from red to purple to brown. Weakness in the walls and valves of the veins cause blood to stagnate rather than to be properly circulated. Some vascular lesions are so tiny that they are not visible under normal conditions. Others, such as varicose let veins, can be quite prominent.

How does the Cynergy work on blood vessels?

It selectively heats blood pigment called hemoglobin to coagulate or constrict the chosen blood vessel.

How does the treatment feel?

It feels like a warm rubber band snap. There is mild discomfort which is alleviated with cold air treatment used in conjunction with the Cynergy.

What kind of veins can be treated?

All kinds, including: facial veins, angiomas, spider veins, leg veins and vascular birth marks like port-wine stains.

How many treatments will I need?

Usually a series of 2 to 6 total treatments are needed to get up to 80% improvement in the blood vessels.

Is the treatment safe?

Yes. The Cynergy can be used to safely treat a variety of blood vessels by a trained practitioner.

What are the possible side effects?

Side effects are minimal. Sometimes redness or localized swelling is noticed. Bruising is also a common side effect when treating blood vessels.

Can I go back to my usual activities after a treatment?

Yes. You can resume your normal activities, although sunscreen is recommended.

When will I see results?

You may notice results even after one treatment. However a series of treatments is necessary to get maximal results.

Vbeam Perfecta

What is a Pulsed Dye Laser?

Pulsed Dye Lasers deliver an intense but gentle burst of light into selectively targeted areas of the skin. The light is absorbed by specific blood vessels or melanin pigmented areas in the dermis depending on the condition being treated. Factors such as the age, color and type of lesions, as well as the location on the body, all determine whether lesions can be removed.

What is the procedure for being treated with a Pulse Dye Laser?

Your practitioner will ensure you are as comfortable as possible; most patients are reclined or lying down depending on the area being treated. Both the patient and the practitioner will be wearing protective eyewear. When treatment begins, the laser will be calibrated and parameters will be set based on the specific condition being treated, each condition and each individual is unique and these settings maximize the results you will see following treatment.

Are there any requirements for treatment – how do I know if I qualify for treatment?

The only requirement is that you have a desire to improve the condition of your skin. Most patients who receive cosmetic laser treatment opt for procedures to correct skin conditions not out of medical necessity, but because they are interested in improving the appearance of their skin without invasive surgery that would cause downtime away from daily activities. From total facial rejuvenation which involves the reduction and removal of red and brown pigmented lesions with a general firming of the skin, to the removal of sun-spot damage, patients should discuss with their practitioner which treatments are right for them.

Does it hurt?

No anesthetics are required, but they may be used. The feeling most patients report is a warming or tingling sensation during treatment. The skin being treated is additionally protected by Candela’s dynamic cooling method, DCD, which delivers a cooling mist on to the skin before the laser pulse is emitted. This cooling mist increases comfort during treatment, as well as protects the skin to minimize side effects like redness.

Is PDL Treatment safe?

Yes. In fact, treatment is so safe that it has been successfully used since the 1980’s for the treatment of port wine stain birthmarks in infants and young children. During treatment, the epidermis is protected by Candela’s exclusive dynamic cooling method, DCD, which sprays a cooling mist onto the targeted area of skin before each laser pulse, maximizing comfort and protecting the skin during treatment.

Are the treatment results permanent?

Permanency of results depend on many factors, like the condition being treated, or lifestyle of the patient. For example, if a patient has sun spots removed, and continues to spend time in the sun without adequate skin protection, it is likely that the sun spots will return. Talk with your practitioner about your goals and expectations for treatment.

How soon will I see results of my treatment?

Most patients notice beneficial results right away, and often times feel a firming or tightening of the treated area. The results of laser therapy vary depending on the condition that is being treated and the number of treatments required for clearance.
